    Here’s one for ya…
So, what’s the real story with all these vitamins with so called metabolism boosters like green tea? Any truth to it or is it all a mind trick?

  2. Stan says:

What are some super foods that you would recommend?

  3. Two great quetions. Stan, I chose yours for the question of the week because it really addresses something that I think all people need to know about all food. So look for the answer under the question of the week category.

    Carolann,
There may be some science behind some of the metabolism boosters because metabolic function requires certain vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. However, I would say these boosters are not significant enough to spend the time or the money aquiring. Most likely you are getting enough of whatever you need for your metabolism to function properly if you are eating properly (i.e. varying colors of fruits and veges, lean meats, etc.)

It is possible that the tea or whatever the product is has vitamins that are part of cellular function. For example citric acid is required to metabolize carbohydrate. Also, carbohydrate is needed to metabolize….carbohydrate. Not to mention in order to metabolize fat your body requires carbohydrate for that. So does it help you lose weight to eat more citric acid? Does it help you lose weight to eat more carbohydrate? No….These things do not stimulate your cellular function/metabolism and even though some vitamins and minerals do it to an extent, the thing that stimulates your metabolism the most is physical work. So my point is that there are lots of things involved in metabolism. Year after year there are new diets, crazes, “keys to weight loss” etc. that come out….and the most constant thing that works across the board is proper exercise and diet.
